Discussing Police Apprentices with Business Secretary, Vince Cable

Last night I met with Vince Cable, the Secretary of State for Business, to discuss the Police Commissioner election in Greater Manchester on 15 November.
.
We talked about the Lib Dem proposal to set up a Police Apprenticeship scheme that would improve police training and get police recruits on the beat sooner than at present. Lib Dems have been working to increase the number of apprenticeships across the board, and are keen to support any proposal that offers quality training to young people.
.
Last year, the number of apprentices increased by 63.5%, and this year further increases are expected. The Business Department are at the forefront of this drive, and the challenge now will be to maintain the quality of apprenticeships so that they provide skills that can lead to full-time employment.
.
The skills taught during a GMP Police Apprenticeship scheme, and the ability to complete the scheme, would be a useful addition to any CV.
